Between July - September this year we ran a pilot programme of Family Volunteering Club in Stevenage, kindly supported with a grant from the Stevenage Community Trust.
This was our first pilot outside of London, and it was a great one! Thank you to Paula and Saira, who did a fantastic job as our Local Coordinators. We ran 8 sessions with; Bragbury End Gardening Club, Church Farm Ardeley, North Herts Community Allotment, The Red Shed and Longmeadow Church Community Food Hub.
Thanks so much to these groups, and to the wonderful families who came along to get stuck into helping out with these brilliant local causes.
We asked people who came along what they most enjoyed about the sessions and here's what they said!
Really well organised and structured
Being with nature, educational for children, supporting our community, friendly organisation, fantastic original activities.
Saving food from going to landfill - good for the environment and planet
Meeting other families, children playing together and discovering gardening, investigating bugs. All the children were so excited. It was a fun way to learn about gardening.
Friendliness of everybody, doing something useful for community, letting kids explore and get their hands dirty, being outdoors!
It was an amazing experience for both me and my children, we can't wait for the next one.
We are now working hard behind the scenes to raise funding to grow the programme in Stevenage for 2024! If you are interested in supporting the programme in this area, please get in touch: maddy@familyvolunteeringclub.co.uk
