Earlier this month, our Founder and CEO, Maddy Mills attended the first Volunteering Davos event, held in central London to discuss the future of volunteering in the UK. Maddy had the privilege of taking part in a panel alongside Dame Julia Cleverdon, Joy Johnston, Henry Hughes and Alex Hughes to offer provocations in relation to the future of volunteering in the uk.

Maddy's provocation was of course around the importance of family and child-friendly volunteering. Asking questions such as;

  • How we can make volunteering part and parcel of family life, and give kids those foundations which lead to life long habits?

  • What would it mean for the kids, grown ups, local community and wider society if every week, thousands of families across the UK were out in their communities volunteering together?

  • There’s amazing work happening in the social action space for teens and that work absolutely needs to continue. But why are we waiting until they are teenagers to invest? We can, and should be engaging kids in volunteering when they are much younger.

It was a stimulating morning of discussion and action - and we are looking forward to our continued participation in this group.
